I’m always drawn to a shirtdress, and this navy short sleeve dress by Draper James (Reese Witherspoon’s new and positively charming brand) had my name written all over it. It’s my favorite color, it’s super flattering AND it has pockets, which was a definite hook-line-and-sinker for me because any dress with pockets is genius by me.  In fact I’ve come to love pockets so that I get angry when a dress or skirt doesn’t have them; I mean why not always have pockets?  But that’s a different rant for a different day.

Anyway, I plan to style the Acklen shirtdress numerous was to take me from spring to summer, though I think it was truly created for “Sunday’s best.”  Though on days other than Sunday I plan wear it with heels and some fancy jewels for a night on the town, and paired with flats and a denim jacket for a comfortable, easy day-at-the-farmer’s-market vibe.

The beauty of this shirtdress is it doesn’t need much styling. But here I added a fun, bright jeweled necklace (similar here) to really bring out the floral collar and paired it with my favorite grey suede pumps to complete the look.  Lastly, I’m majorly crushing on this circle crossbody bag!  It’s so versatile; so don’t be surprised if you see it many, many more times.

In the words of Reese, I’m just “pleased as punch” with the dress, and the whole Draper James collection.  I mean have you checked out their home and giftable goodies?  I think I need this, this, and of course this.  I mean wine not?  Truly, MKR

How to Host a Southern Thanksgiving

Setting A Rich, Traditional Tablescape and Serving a Solid Menu

Both MKR and I both have a strong love for a classic Thanksgiving…a traditional table with rich harvest details and of course, hearty flavors.  When MKR designed this picturesque Southern Thanksgiving spread a few years ago, she embraced that feel as combined rich browns and oranges with an unexpected twist of coral and sage greens. Patterned linens and statement dinnerware masterfully combined to create a table that was anything but generic and one worthy of pulling out of The Archives to share again.

Our Buttermilk Brined Smoked Turkey (on the Big Green Egg of course) is clearly the star of the menu, though it’s accompanied by some pretty stellar sides: Butternut Squash Soup, Green Bean Casserole, Chestnut Focaccia Stuffing and Sweet Potato Au Gratin.

Want more Turkey Day inspo? We’re sharing everything from this Southern Thanksgiving as well as styling tips, a fool-proof entertaining timeline, menu printables and more in our clickable Field Guide to the Season!  Cheers, Kat
