Officially OOO (Out Of Office)

Dressing for the Holiday weekend with Hampden
Filed Under > #OOTD (Outfit of the Day)

Long holiday weekends have always been my favorite kind of weekends.  I’m sure I’m not alone in this. But unlike many, I rarely spend holiday weekends out of town. Instead, I opt for the quiet of the city while everyone is opting for the busyness of the beach.

So what do I do then when a four day weekend arrives?  A whole lot of nothing and everything at the same time.  I don’t really make plans, I just let the wind blow me where it will.  Usually the “wind” ends up blowing me towards a combination of eating, shopping, leisurely strolling, and some sort of home reno project.

Which means whatever I’m wearing this weekend it has to be comfortable and ready for anything.  For me that means some sort of tennis shoe, shorts, and a cute tee or sweatshirt. All which I recently snagged at one of my favorite boutiques, Hampden Clothing.

If you’ve never heard of Hampden let me just change your shopping life now.  Hampden, a 4,000 square foot speciality clothing and accessories boutiques, resides on historic King Street in Charleston, South Carolina.  Owned by the lovely Stacy Smallwood who has the best eye for up-and-coming, as well as established designers.

I’m a huge fan of Hampden because I can find truly unique pieces and my favorite staples all in one place. Stacy introduced me to my favorite shoe brand ever, Golden Goose, and all the pieces I’ve gotten from her are some of my most favorite and most unique. Plus I love supporting another small, female run business owner.  Just follow along on Hampden’s Instagram and you’ll quickly see what I mean about Hampden’s selection and Stacy’s passion.

Today’s outfit is a perfect case study in what I just said.  The Holiday sweatshirt is a new-to-me brand that I’ve quickly fallen in love with.  Also available in pink and t-shirt form, I’ll be wearing Holiday well past the holiday weekend.

My beyond comfortable shoes are Loeffler Randall, a classic closet staple brand for me. And psst….they’re on sale right now!

Then there’s of course the best part of this outfit; my Stella McCartney shorts. Yes they are a splurge, but so worth it.  These shorts will never go out of style, plus they can easily be styled with heels and a silky blouse or off the shoulder top for a night out, or worn everyday as shown here.

Lastly, pair all of this with my Truss bag, which is also on sale, and you’ve got a complete ensemble you can wear together or pull apart. An ensemble you’ll likely see me in all weekend long! Happy Memorial Day friends!  Truly, MKR

P.S. Make sure you’re signed up for Hampden’s newsletter so you can see all of my favorite Hampden pieces.

From my favorite natural deodorant to matcha to-go, everything I'm obsessed with now

Saturday Skin, Primally Pure and more nontoxic favorites | Waiting on Martha

The change of seasons brings about even more reason to give your skin a little TLC. You’ll quickly sense a moisturizing-obsessed theme here too; I’m giving extra attention to the hydrating and nourishing products that make me feel my best all over.

I recently went on a little spree with Saturday Skin — isn’t the packaging beautiful? And of course, I’ve been finishing my Colleen Rothschild favorites, too. Read about these current go-to’s below, and tell me if you’ve tried any, and what you think! Truly, MKR

One. Weleda Birch Cellulite Oil. I’m a huge fan of Weleda; it’s an affordable, nontoxic brand that’s easy to find (hello, Target) and boasts effective products to boot. This cellulite oil helps tone and firm up the skin, using natural essential oils. You won’t find any fragrance, added color or preservatives in this nourishing and moisturizing oil.

Two. One Love Organics Love + Charcoal Mask. One of my favorite things about OLO products is how hydrating they are. This luxurious mask uses aloe vera and charcoal to detox the skin, cleansing it but never drying it out. If you’re on the lookout for the perfect mask, you’ve got to try this one.

Three. Saturday Skin Wide Awake Brightening Cream. I gravitate to all eye creams and balms as I’ve found my eyes to show my age. I recently tried a bundle of Saturday Skin products — they had me on their packaging!) and was pleasantly surprised to find the cream to be great at reducing puffiness. Its smooth application is refreshing and lovely.

Four. Colleen Rothschild Sheer Renewal Cream. A lightweight, sheer, non-greasy moisturizer? Sign me up. I’ve since emptied this Colleen Rothschild cream and going back for more! It hasn’t caused any breakouts; instead, it’s left my skin happy and glowing. I love to wear it as a deep hydrating cream when I head to bed.

Five. Herbivore Botanicals Blue Tansy Resurfacing Clarity Mask. It wouldn’t be “Me Time” without a cooling face mask. There’s just something so satisfying about applying a mask that you can truly FEEL doing its magic on the skin. This blue wonder by Herbivore Botanicals is a bestseller at Waiting on Martha Home, and for obvious reason. #obsessed

Six. Kiel’s ‘Superbly Restorative’ Argan Body Lotion. Are you sensing a theme here? I’m obsessed with moisturizing my skin all over, especially as we hop into spring. I love this cult-classic body lotion for its ability to absorb into the skin quickly. It has Moroccan argan oil to thank for its antioxidant-rich blend that helps fight damage caused by free radicals and smooth texture. Yes and yes.

Seven. Cap Beauty The Neat Matcha Sticks. Single-serve matcha packets are my new best friend. They’re perfect for travel; offering the smooth and calm focus — and a boost of antioxidants — of high-quality matcha tea.

Eight. Marvis Toothpaste. If you’re on the nontoxic journey like me, then you’ll know how hard it is to find a great, all natural toothpaste. Marvis is the answer, my friends! I love the flavor and fresh effect of both the Whitening and the Cinnamon flavors — and I have yet to try the Jasmin Mint and Ginger Mint!

Nine. Primally Pure Deodorant. Ah, natural deodorant. I’ve tried A LOT and I’ve nearly given up on the quest for an effective one after trying lots of duds. But Primally Pure has come to the rescue with their Lavender and Charcoal deodorants — they work.

Ten. Colleen Rothschild Daily Defense SPF 25. I’ve been pretty religious about applying SPF lately, and this Colleen Rothschild cream makes it easy. It’s basically a primer that sits perfectly alone or under makeup with its smooth finish.

Eleven. Saturday Skin Featherweight Daily Moisturizing Cream. Another favorite find from my recent Saturday Skin haul, this lightweight body lotion is a DREAM. It’s gentle, absorbs quickly and feels luxurious to the touch. I highly recommend if you’re on the hunt for the perfect warm-weather moisturizer.

Twelve. Kora Skinfood Supplement. You know what they say; beauty comes from the inside out. I’ve recently been obsessed with these convenient single-serve skinfood supplements. They’re packed with nutrients to make you look — and feel — your best. Not only great for digestion, this blend is packed with antioxidants and immune-boosting ingredients. I add this blend to my daily smoothie and am loving it!

Thirteen. Saturday Skin Balancing Act Skin Smoothing Lotion. Okay, I stocked up on the Saturday Skin products, I know! But this lotion was too good not to try. It’s large, reasonably priced, and pleasantly gentle on my skin. It’s lightly scented and is wonderful to apply during my slower nighttime rituals.

Fourteen. Saturday Skin Rise + Shine Purifying Cleanser. How could I forget the cleanser! It’s hard finding a nontoxic, effective face cleanser that doesn’t strip the skin of its natural oils and moisture, am I right? This one has you covered; its gentle blend of apple and peach extracts are simply lovely. I’m a huge new fan of this entire skincare line — stock up at Nordstrom!

The Classics In Greenville

Suiting up in what works for a full day of exploring
Filed Under > #OOTD (Outfit of the Day)

Jacket, Dress (sold out similar HERE HERE, and HERE), Shoes (similar), Bag, Phone Charging Bag Pouf, Phone Case, Earrings, Sunnies, Rings

If I’ve learned anything about fashion in my 37 years it’s that understanding what works for you is really the key to feeling and looking good. I’m not necessarily talking about honing a “signature style,” but more so about knowing what you love to wear that looks good, and reinventing that on the daily to work with your lifestyle.

My most purchased item is hands down a button down shirt.  A great button down, usually striped, is basically my every day uniform.  It’s a classic, that I can dress up or down to my liking, and feel completely comfortable in.  So when I see a button down in dress form I always snag it.  I got this one during Tory’s end of season sale, but I’ve linked a few similar versions above.

Paired with two of my other staples; a great leather jacket and oxfords, this outfit proved perfect while out and about in Greenville recently.

I’ve had these Loeffler and Randall platform oxfords for 2+ years now.  They are literally the most comfortable shoes ever, and I love the little extra height they give me.  Sadly, they are no longer making this particular style, however numerous other brands and versions have popped up as of late.  Personally, I’m considering these ones.

And a leather jacket.  Well I don’t think I need to even explain why a great leather jacket should be a staple in everyone’s wardrobe.  Especially with all of the new amazing color choices.  I’ve got my eye on this exact one, but in a khaki color. And a high quality leather jacket will just kept better with time.  My All Saints moto is going on it’s 8th year!

I’d love to know what you consider to be your closet staples? Truly, MKR
