And Away We Go…

By the time most of you get around to reading this I’ll be at 30,000 feet on our way to Mexico to celebrate two of our closest friends saying “I do.”  But before I officially check out for the weekend I thought I’d share a few of my go-to tips when traveling and a travel outfit from cold to warm weather.  TGIF and hope your weekend is full of as many margaritas as mine will be.  Truly, MKR

No. One.  Pile on the light layers.  When traveling between cold and warm temperatures I always like to layer up, but as lightly as possible.  This jacket is the perfect example, it’s warm enough but light and foldable so when we arrive in sunny Mexico I can roll it up and throw it in my carry on.  Also I always have a scarf in my purse because I tend to run on the cold side and I won’t go near those airplane blankets.

No. Two.  Wear your heaviest shoes.  If you’re an over-packer like me you need to save as much room, and bag weight, as possible which means I always wear my heaviest and/or largest shoes.  In the winter you’ll usually see me at the airport in my over the knee boots, for warmer temps these espadrilles as most everything else packed is sandals and flats.

No. Three.  Hats on.  Until I take the plunge and purchase the LV hat box I’ve been lusting after I always wear my hat and carefully carry the others in my purse to protect them from losing their shape or being damaged.  

No. Four.  Keep all in plane essentials in reaching distance.  Nothing is worse than waiting for someone to dig out their laptop in the security line or find their magazines in the bottom of your bag while others wait in the aisle.  So I always carry my headphones and Kindle in my purse, laptop and magazines in the outside pocket of my carry on.
