Yesterday I shared a look at my updated gallery wall with Simply Framed, a wall that definitely doesn’t shy from the bold or colorful. And while gallery walls tend feel very “one-and-done,” I touched upon the process of continually...
In case you missed it (which is doubtful): velvet is having a MAJOR moment right now. From blazers to boots to clutches to even sweatpants, we’re seeing velvet details on all of the items at the top of our must-have list this holiday season. It’s really no surprise that this luxe look is red-hot right now though. There’s something about smooth velvet that screams holiday glam, don’t you think?
It didn’t take me long to fall for the trend; the plush, rich material in all of these deep jewel tones is really just irresistible this time of year. I’m especially partial to the emerald and merlot shades, and I’m THIS close to pulling the trigger on this burgundy velvet blazer (only $89) once I get through my Christmas shopping.
So to get you covered for your final stretch of holiday parties, we included 12 velvet pieces to shop now. I’d love to know if you’re as obsessed with the velvet trend as we are! Would you rock these velvet ankle boots?! Cheers, Kat
We didn’t think we’d be such big fans of the velvet midi skirt look, but oh man we are. This high-waisted pleat skirt begs for a calendar filled with holiday parties. Pair it with a statement top, or hit a home-run with a monochromatic sweater.
It’s all in the details, and this plush emerald green velvet blazer has everything and more. Its tailored peak-lapel blazer with gold-tone crest-embossed buttons that gleam against the rich fabric are perfect for the holiday season. Our favorite part? It dresses up our favorite basics in five seconds, flat.
The second we spotted these strappy velvet sandals, we knew they had to be ours. These heels hit all of our favorite features: a classic d’Orsay profile, an open toe, a closed counter and a gleaming metallic half-moon heel.
Another win for the casual-cool, these velvet joggers are completely acceptable to wear in public. Dress them up with a pair of strappy heels and a blazer for a fashion-forward look at your holiday party this weekend. You’ll be as comfortable as you are chic.
Be still our hearts. This Rockstud Velvet Clutch simply steals the show. The iconic pyramid studs paired with the lush velvet clutch achieves a ladylike elegance with contemporary edge. It comes with a drop-in chain strap, making it easy to wear over the shoulder and as a clutch.
This trim velvet blazer will soon be a wardrobe staple. It’s a great price point if you’re still on the fence about the velvet trend, and it has a timeless, tailored fit that is universally flattering. It’s available in Black and Burgundy.
So I finally took the plunge. I bought myself a pair of over the knee boots by Stuart Weitzman. And goodness, I looove them.
I had my hesitations about the over the knee trend for numerous reasons; one of them being would I actually wear the boots? The pair I had my eyes on, after all, was pricey. And another concern: would they fit my legs? There’s nothing worse than a boot that feels like it’s suffocating your leg, especially your calf.
But I couldn’t get the boots off my mind; I was drawn to this pair in particular with the heel lending itself to be a bit dressier than my flat, casual over the knee boots already in my closet. Retail therapy worked again and I ordered the boots, but surprisingly went bold! I fell in love with this show-stopping color block combo and didn’t look back. They instantly proved to be extremely comfortable (they’re pull-on and hug my leg just right). I also like to think of them as a modern neutral…and it’s good to push your own fashion boundaries sometimes, am I right?
I can’t forget to mention my new sunnies (I lost way, way too many pairs this summer) and the Gucci crossbody bag. I was just telling Kat the other day that it’s the best investment bag that goes with seriously everything. So happy that I took the plunge with these over the knee boots, and now I’m tempted to invest in a neutral pair! Tell me friends, what are your thoughts on the trend?! Truly, MKR

Ponchos are the kinds of pieces in my closet that I reach for time and time again as soon as the temps drop. They’re a sure thing; they’re cozy, on-trend, and they have that ability to elevate even the most basic of outfits when I’m rushing out the door to grab drinks with friends. I love that finding affordable ponchos is easy too…I don’t have to break the bank to nail the look.
Below, I’ve rounded up more than a dozen styles of ponchos and capes at ALL price points. If you’re on the fence with wearing ponchos or capes, some great under-$100 options are the ones to note. (This plaid one may be the best of the affordable ponchos I’ve found.) But if you know you love ponchos and capes like I do, and you’re looking to invest in a timeless cape silhouette, you’ll probably be just as smitten with this Ted Baker London camel cape, and of course this Burberry beauty (a girl can dream, right?!). Cheers, Kat
Snatch up this classic cape silhouette from Nordstrom while you can. You’ll be reaching for this warm piece the second that the temperatures drop. With a wool and cashmere blend, this cape has that refined feel you expect from a wardrobe staple like this.
100% cashmere and 100% cozy. This structured cashmere cape is a timeless sweater of the very best quality. The arm slits with ribbed trim provide perfect layering lines; pair this piece with your favorite blouse and leather leggings for a killer look this winter.
I love this plaid poncho (and its low price tag of only $39!). I think it’s a great find at a fraction of the price of similar styles. It’s lightweight and soft, making it the perfect everyday piece. I’d go so far as to say that it’s very likely to turn into favorite part of your cold-weather uniform.
We found it: a cozy sweater that you’ll want to wear every. single. day. Made of wool, cotton and alpaca in a poncho-style silhouette, it’s the coziest of cozy options that’s still nice enough to wear out of the house. The chunky ribbed collar can also be removed, making it extremely versatile.
This colorblock cape is a great affordable option for the classic vintage-inspired cape silhouette, priced right under $100. With a front hook-and-eye closure, it’s also available in two other color variations.
This style is simply stunning. There’s no denying that this trench cape coat by Burberry is a timeless investment piece (if you can stomach the price tag). Just remind yourself that you’ll have it for years and years to come; it’ll never go out of style. I especially love its short sleeves and classic camel coloring…it has the ability to elevate even the most simple winter outfits.
I have all the heart eyes for this beautiful merino wool wrap by Rag & Bone. I don’t know if I can justify the price point just yet, but I know that it would be a piece I’d reach for all season long. The muted color palette and stripes are great cold-weather neutrals, and the merino wool promises a cozy, warm fit.
This easy grey poncho is another great buy under $100. I’d encourage this piece to anyone who’s on the fence for the poncho & cape trend…it’s a simple basic that goes with just about everything, while its asymmetrical hem and sharp black in-check detail adds interest. It would look fantastic with an all black get-up, don’t you think?
A gorgeous wardrobe essential, this oatmeal-colored ribbed poncho will be worn on repeat. Though it is a bit boxy, it’s a super cozy style that drapes in the most flattering way over your favorite shirt or blouse. And since it’s made of 100% cashmere, you know it’s a good buy.
Here’s another beautiful wrap by Rag & Bone this year; it’s easy to see that this fringe rendition will make for a fool-proof classic this fall. It’s made of 100% wool, and sports a retro-varsity style pattern.
Asos for the win for a colorblock cape that looks a lot more expensive than it is (it’s only $61!). It feels like wool (it’s actually a poly-viscose blend), and has faux leather trim detailing. The oversized fit allows it to drape over the body to create the classic cape silhouette. I think this would make a great option for a festive outdoor event this fall!
I just picked up this beautiful woven poncho…I love its boho-inspired details and style. It’s a cotton-blend, allowing some wears this fall before it gets too cold. I went ahead and ordered a size down (I have a hard time with sizing on Revolve and I’m crossing my fingers that it’ll be a good move).
