Sharpie Easter Eggs Part II

As promised in my Shaprie Easter Eggs Part I post…I give you gold Sharpie eggs.  Boosh.  Same thought process applies here as it does in the Part I post, I simply chose to use the brown eggs with the gold Sharpie rather than white eggs with the bronze Sharpie.  I mean how pretty is the gold on the light brown?  It literally looks like gold paint rather than a marker.  And I mean to top it off are you dying over our new Framhouse Pantry bud vases?!

So there you have it, this years Easter eggs.  Easiest eggs I’ve ever done, and by far my favorite.  Will you be Sharpie-marking your eggs this year? xo

**Please note it is suggested that you do NOT eat eggs once you have dyed or in my case drawn on them with a Sharpie**

Sharpie Easter Eggs Part I

I am not artistic.  Not at all.  So when I started gathering ideas for how I was going to decorate my Easter eggs this year of course everything I loved took some serious time and some serious artistic skills.  Two things I really don’t posses.  What I did posses however was a brand new set of metallic Sharpie markers.

Oh how I love Sharpies.  If you follow me on Instagram you may have seen my custom Sharpies…I mean perfection.  I also have a serious love for metallics and this years Easter table setting star are these West Elm rose gold flatware sets.  So when thinking about what I was going to do for place cards I had a lightbulb moment.  I’m going to Sharpie (bronze color) initials on my eggs and put them in the cutest nests ever I got from Williams Sonoma last year.  Done and done, two birds with one stone…festive eggs and my place cards for our Easter dinner.

Make sure to come back on Thursday and see what I did with the gold Sharpie…mind blowing I promise.  Happy Easter egg decorating! xo

**Please note it is suggested that you do NOT eat eggs once you have dyed, or in my case drawn on them with a Sharpie**

IKEA Vittsjo DIY

While flipping through the blog world this past weekend I came across this simple, yet brillant DIY idea from Ana Antunes Home Styling.

Here’s the gist…Step 1 buy the IKEA Vittsjo shelving system for a whopping $70.00.  Step 2, spray paint gold.  Step 3, add mirrors to the bottom and top shelves (though this isn’t even a necessity).  Step 4, style your new glistening gold gorgeous shelves.  Done and done.

I know there are a million IKEA DIY’s so I’d love to see (in the comments below), if you’ve stumbled across any good ones lately.  Happy Monday Loves!  xoxo

DIY Pumpkin Prettiness

I love the holidays.  All of the holidays.  So each year when Halloween rolls around it’s all about how I’m going to decorate my pumpkins.  Last year I did a gorgeous monogrammed theme…I wish I could find the pics to share.  Anyway, this year it’s all about the metallics.

My look was relatively easy to create (just a tad tedious), all you need is some spray paint, wash tape, and thumb tacks.  Easy breezy.  So check out all the pics below with some simple how-to’s on creating a similar look.  And I’d love to hear how you’ll be carving (or not carving) your pumpkins this year.  xoxo

Our soft burlap/linen “Boo” Flag Banner

Obsessed with our hand made skull burlap runner, Noir cake plates, compotes, and glass treat stands.

So let’s talk paint, spray paint that is.  I love spray paint, and I especially love metallic spray paint.  I used metallic silver, gold, and high gloss white.  **TIP** just make sure your pumpkins are COMPLETELY dry before decorating…let the rest 24 hours.  And pumpkins aren’t the only thing that look amazing spray painted as you can tell from our spray painted candy corn and mini candy pumpkins.  Plus the spray paint helps me not eating a bag at a time!

The gold candy pumpkins looking amazing in our Rosanna Compote

Gold spray painted candy corn

My love for Washi tape just grows and grows.  You can do SO much with it, and it doesn’t ruin any surfaces so it’s perfect for crafting projects.  For my Washi pumpkin I used our black and white striped washi and simply ran it down the seams of the pumpkin.  Then wrapped the entire stem as well.  It only took 10 minutes and I only used about 1/4 of the Washi roll.  If you haven’t tried Washi yet…it’s definitely a Martha MUST!  **TIP** Use the back of your scissors and run down each Washi strip to appropriately stick the tape on the pumpkin.

Lastly we’re on to the thumb tacks.  Not difficult, but the most timely DIY pumpkin project.  You’ll simply need about 500 or so silver and gold thumb tacks…I found mine at the dollar store.  Then simply tack your favorite pattern on to the pumpkin.  **TIP** Make sure you get smooth surfaced pumpkins and as symmetrical as possible.

Out of the 3 thumb tacked pumpkins this one was the easiest because you can simply follow the seams of the pumpkin.  And how fab does it look sitting on our Rosanna Noir Cake Stand?

Make sure you slightly overlap each thumbtack and when tacking in the seams be careful not to push them in too deep because they can take off some of the spray paint.

So everyone knows I love chevron.  I first taped one of the pumpkins with blue tape in a chevron pattern and then spray painted it, but that was an epic fail.  Because pumpkins are by no means flat so the spray paint seaps down under the tape and therefore no clean pattern.  Since I didn’t feel like busting out the paint to try it a second time I thought I’d do it with thumbtacks.  This was the most difficult one to do, but I didn’t stencil it out ahead of time which would have made it much easier and more symmetrical.  However, perfection can be boring so winging it isn’t always a bad thing.

Loved the swirl, it looks so amazing from the top and the bottom!  If you’re going to attempt this pattern my only suggestion would be to choose a medium or small pumpkin, if I would have done this on a larger one it would have taken forever!

So in review all we needed was, pumpkins, spray paint, thumb tacks, and washi tape…of course the gorgeous table decor helped (shockingly you can find it all in our Boutique).  I hope these creations inspire you to make some un-traditional choices this holiday season!

I Am Baker Neapolitan Rose Cake & Tutorial

Recently I stumbled across the amazing Amanda and her blog I Am Baker.  Actually I first stumbled across Amanda’s beyond gorgeous Neapolitan Rose Cake which then led me to her beyond amazing blog, I Am Baker.  This cake is everything.  Perfectly girly, I’m picturing it at birthday parties, bridal showers, and by changing the colors a wedding or even Fourth of July.  And this isn’t the only creation I’m dying over, the watercolor hydrangea cake and red velvet graham crackers..ugh, love everything!

Lucky for us Amanda provides numerous tutorials right on her blog, the rose cake being HERE (which on a side note has made me decide I need a spinning cake stand holder).  I’m not saying creating this masterpiece is super easy, but with her help it’s definitely do-able.

Shameless plug…how amazing would these cakes look on our Rosanna Cake Plate?  Just saying.

So will you be making your own Rose cake in the near future?  xoxo

DIY Decorative Fabric Tray

Months ago I had seen these fabulous DIY Decorative Trays crafted by the queen bee herself Martha Stewart, but was hesitant to take on this project fearing the end result would look less than chic.  I’m happy to report that I finally got my craft on and in less than 15 minutes I have an amazing new decorative tray where an old burnt baking pan used to be!  I took a few liberties with the original “How To’s” because quite frankly I didn’t have any felt lying around the abode, and I really don’t think you need it.  So without further ado I’m happy to say our “Do of the Week” is from yours truly (with a little help from Martha of course).  Enjoy!  xoxo

My finished product!

The Inspiration Courtesy of Martha Stewart

What You’ll Need

  1. Baking pan, cookie sheet, tray of some sort (I used an old burnt metal backing pan)
  2. 1 yard (or the appropriate size of your tray) of decorative fabric
  3. Scissors
  4. Tacky Spray Adhesive (I used Allenes Crystal Clear Acid Free Tacky Spray)
  5. Optional acrylic sheet cut to fit inside tray

The DIY

  1. Cut fabric the front and wrap around the back of the tray. Cover the front of the tray with spray adhesive.
  2. Place fabric on tray, leaving enough room to wrap fabric around all sides to the back. Smooth fabric onto tray, pressing out any bubbles.  Be careful and take your time, once it’s on removing it an re-sticking it is VERY difficult!
  3. Pull any extra material into corner and push around the edge (very much like wrapping a gift).
  4. Turn tray over. Cover each side one at a time with spray adhesive and press the fabric over the four  edges.  Trim any excess fabric with scissors. Use additional adhesive spray if needed.
    6. If desired place acrylic sheet in center of tray.
If you are using an acrylic sheet it would be extra amazing to cut out your monogram and secure it to the fabric in the center of the tray before securing the acrylic over the top.

Not too shabby for my first time!

I’ll be utilizing mine at my bar or to hold my baubles!

Valentine’s Day Roundup…5 DIY’s To Try

I had grand plans for my glue gun and Valentine’s Day this year, grand plans I tell you.  Then I learned I had 3 weeks to pack up our entire house and move down to Atlanta and my grand plans fell apart.  But just because my glue gun is temporarily in storage doesn’t mean I should deny all of you crafty people a little Valentine’s Day inspired DIY’s.  So take a look and get your craft on this weekend with these 5 marvelous projects.  xoxo

Valentine’s Day In A Box from You Are My Fav (tutorial here).  Perfectly customizable for your valentine and doesn’t reek of all that Valentine’s Day red roses and babies breath cheesiness.

Cupcake Liner Wreath from Tatertots and Jello (tutorial here).  This is an oldie, but a goodie I recently stumbled upon thanks to everyone’s favorite addiction, Pinterest.  Why I love this adorably whimsical wreath so much is because you could do it for any occasion…Halloween, Baby Showers, Bridal Showers, you get the drift.

DIY Mirrored Caked Stands from Tradewind Tiaras (tutorial here).  Like above I’ve been holding on to this DIY for awhile because it’s perfect for practically every occasion…though red velvet Valentine’s whoopie pies would give some amazing coloring contrast to the mirrored top!

Valentine’s Day Surprise Crackers from Not Martha (tutorial here).  Who knew crackers were so easy to make, and again not just limited to Valentine’s Day, (if you’re not sensing a theme here you haven’t been paying attention)!  And though candy is great if you really want to make Valentine’s memorable fill it with something that has a little sparkle, diamonds perhaps?

Valentine’s Friendship Bracelets by Dandee (tutorial here).  I don’t have children, but I loved this idea so I had to share.  And quite frankly friendship bracelets aren’t just for the tots, I personally have quite a few and always appreciate more.  Just one suggestion on this one moms, I would throw in some candy to go along with the bracelet so your kid isn’t like the house during Halloween that gives out peanuts or toothpaste…nobody wants peanuts and toothpaste!

DIY Chain & Rhinestone Bracelet from I Spy DIY

I recently discovered I Spy DIY’s blog and fell in love with her oh-so fashionable and easy DIY’s, so I had to share.  Though it wasn’t easy choosing my favorite DIY once I came across these Chain & Rhinestone Bracelets I knew I needen’t look no more.  If you’ve ever visited our Etsy Shop you’d know I have a soft spot for bracelets, and if you haven’t visited our Etsy Shop I simply ask/scream WHY NOT?!  Anyway, See the full “How-To’s” at I Spy DIY, but here’s a little sneak peak.  And remember if you take on this DIY make sure you post pics to our Facebook page…I know I will.  xoxo
