The Margarita: Two Ways

margarita recipe

It’s no secret that I love a good cocktail.  And in summer there is no cocktail I like better than a margarita!  My two go-to margarita recipes are complete opposites, one brings the heat and one the sweet.  My Peppered Margarita is swimming with jalapenos while my St. Germain margarita is accented with mint and elderflower.  Cheers! truly, MKR.

Best Ever Strawberry Margarita

Strawberry Margarita, Waiting On MarthaStrawberry Margarita IngredientsShake, shake, shakeStrawberry Margarita, Waiting On MarthaStrawberry Margarita, Waiting On Martha

I love strawberries.  I love margaritas.  I hate strawberry margaritas.  The problem is you dine at a restaurant, order a strawberry margarita and it’s a sugary, frozen, 800 calorie hot mess.  So when life hands you lemons (or rather strawberries) you make lemonade…spiked of course.  So my Loves, I give you my take on the Strawberry Margarita.  A Margarita to shame all other Margaritas!  Cin Cin! Truly, MKR

Ingredients
  1. 1 1/2 oz of silver tequila (I prefer Herradura or Patron...you could also use vodka if you're not a tequila fan)
  2. 1 pint of fresh strawberries
  3. Juice of 2 limes
  4. 1-2 splashes of simple syrup (dependent on how in season and sweet your strawberries are)
  5. Ice
  6. Muddler
  7. Cocktail shaker
  8. Sieve
Instructions
  1. Rinse, hull and cut strawberries in half.
  2. Add ice to martini glasses and set aside to chill.
  3. Place sieve on top of a bowl or large measuring cup. Add about a handful of strawberries to the sieve and begin to muddle. You CANNOT do this in a blender because the strawberries will become foamy. Continue muddling strawberries and extracting the juice until you have about 1/4 - 1/2 cup of strawberry juice.
  4. Add ice, strawberry juice, lime juice, and simple syrup to the cocktail shaker. Shake, shake, shake.
  5. Dump ice out of martini glasses, pour the strawberry margarita micture in, garnish with a strawberry and enjoy!
Notes
  1. *You can also sugar or salt the rim if preferred.

Jose Cuervo History In A Bottle: The Pineapple Margarita

pineapple margarita

When the good people at Jose Cuervo asked me to take part in celebrating 219 years with their History in a Bottle Campaign I jumped at the opportunity.  I mean who am I to say no to the good folks who invented the margarita?  Created in 1795 with agave harvested from volcanic soil Jose Cuervo has a rich, and very fascinating history.  A history you can experience yourself through watching the video below or downloading their augmented reality app.  I of course toasted Jose Cuervo in true WOM fashion by mixing up a pineapple margarita with their Tradicional Silver Tequila.  A margarita I guarantee you’ll be sipping on for Jose’s next 200+ years.  Cheers!  truly, MKR
